The excluded pages tool allows users to prevent specific pages from showing up in the results of any search that is performed on their site. Unlike the Page Ranking tool that allows you to exclude web pages from appearing as results when specific search words are used, this tool prevents a web page from ever appearing as result, no matter the search that is performed. This is a useful tool to curate your visitors search experience, reducing the number of irrelevant results they have to sift through- good candidates for exclusion are specific landing and "thank you" pages, or gated content that you only want accessible after filling out a web form.
The main excluded pages screen contains a searchable table that displays both the page title and URL for all excluded pages. A user can delete an excluded page, allowing it to appear in search results, by hovering over the page and clicking on the trash icon. If you click on a URL in the table, you are directed to that page, allowing you to make sure it is a page that you want exclude.
To exclude web pages from searches performed on your site, click the “New” button in the upper-right corner of the main excluded pages screen.
After clicking “New,” an overlay appears where you can search for pages by either title or URL. When you input a title or URL into the text box, a search occurs automatically, providing you with a list of web pages that you can exclude your searches.
The pages presented in the list have a title and a URL. If you click on the URL, you are directed to that page, allowing you to make sure it is a page that you want to exclude. By clicking on the “+” button that corresponds to a page, that page is placed in a sublist where it can be excluded from your searches. If a page does not have a “+” button, that page has either been ranked or is already excluded using the page ranking tool and cannot be added as an excluded page using this tool.
The number of pages in your sublist is indicated in a pull-down menu at the top of the overlay. The pull-down menu contains all the pages that are in your sublist. To exclude the pages in your sublist from your searches, click “Add” at the bottom of the page.
